Packet Switching

  • Defintion:
    • process -- data broken down into smaller parts called "packets"
      • Why? So sending becomes easier and faster as the pieces of the data can take different routes
    • resembled at the other end
    • includes more information in header and footer about packet
  • Why?
    • more efficient
      • higher speed
    • traffic distributed
